If you’re one of those people who NEEDS to try everything: There are a few new flavors that are going viral.
Hormel Foods has introduced: The Spam Dog, which is basically Spam in the shape of a hot dog.
That doesn’t seem like a HUGE stretch. They don’t seem THAT different, although, if you’re a connoisseur of one of them, then you probably have stronger feelings.
It isn’t available in stores, but they’re rolling them out this summer at select restaurants, convenience chains, and baseball stadiums across the country. (Here’s a local news report about it.)
If you’re looking for something more plant-based: There’s a farm in Massachusetts that sells asparagus . . . ice cream.
The farm is called Flayvors of Cook Farm. It’s a dairy farm, but it’s in a town called Hadley, which is known as the Asparagus Capital of the World. The ice cream is seasonal. It’s called “Hadley Grass,” and it also has almonds.
The manager of the farm says they’ve been doing it for a while, but, “People will often think it’s a joke . . . they’re like, ‘For real?'”
So what does it TASTE like? She says, “There are strings or chunks of asparagus. But when you first take a bite, you get the sweet with the almond, like a pistachio flavor ice cream. Then the asparagus hits you on the backside and you’re like, ‘Oh, there it is.'”
The ice cream is usually only available for about a month or so. until early June. (It’s unclear if the asparagus in the ice cream is enough to make your pee stink.)
Finally: If you want a crunchier snack, there’s a weird cracker in Japan called “Jibachi Senbei,” which is infused with WHOLE, dried digger WASPS. The dough of the cracker is slightly sweet . . . and the dried wasps taste a little like burned raisins, if that sounds good to you. (???)
