Is there a chance you’re secretly CANADIAN? Do you love maple syrup, hockey, winter, ketchup chips, and always say, “Sorry, eh”?
There’s been a new rule change in Canada, where “millions more Americans” might qualify for dual Canadian citizenship, right now.
Previously, Canadian citizenship-by-descent could only be passed down one generation, from parent to child, but now, you could qualify if you show that you have a Canadian grandparent, great-grandparent, or an even more distant Canadian ancestor. (So if you already have Tim Hortons in your blood.)
If this is YOU, it means that you’re a Canadian NOW, although you’ll have to provide documentation to get it certified. And the proof of citizenship application fee is just $75.
But it could be more expensive if you don’t already have the documentation, and need to hire genealogists and lawyers to track down old records. Once you have it, the processing time to make it official is around 10 months.
