You’ve probably heard of “First World Problems.” Well, here’s what a small town police department does when they don’t have bigger fish to fry.
The town of Jesup, Iowa has announced that it has banned “TP-ing,” which they’ve defined as, “using toilet paper to decorate homes, trees, or other structures.”
They say there’s now a “zero-tolerance policy,” and perpetrators will be arrested and charged with things like: trespassing, criminal mischief, illegal dumping, and disorderly conduct.
Those sentenced will be looking at fines and community service. Although, it’s possible those penalties will be ramped up for repeat offenders. (They did stop short of mentioning prison time.)
Usually, “TP-ing” is done as a prank by bored kids, not hardened criminals with extensive rap sheets, so the Jesup police know you may THINK this is a little over the top.
They say, “This may seem extreme to some, but this happens year after year, and to the same persons, THAT IS HARASSMENT!!!! We have to draw the line, we cannot watch every residence for every minute in town [every] night.”
(Here’s the Jesup PD’s full announcement. If you’re wondering, Jesup has a population of about 2,500 people.)
