A lot of people thought this was a joke when we heard about it a few weeks ago. Some are still wondering . . .
The world’s first SPERM RACE happened in L.A. Friday night with a student from USC going up against a guy from UCLA. They did three heats and were tied after two. USC won the rubber match.
The whole thing was livestreamed on YouTube, and you could even place bets on Polymarket.com. People wagered a combined $329,000 on it. (!!!)
The footage they showed left some people thinking the whole thing was STAGED though. It showed each guy’s swimmers racing across a two-millimeter-wide track. But it kind of seemed like CGI. Plus, they don’t usually swim in one direction like that.
(Here’s the final race. WARNING: The full livestream includes a ton of profanity and crude language.)
Organizers claim the results are fully legit. But even THEY seemed to suggest the footage might not be the real deal. After the race, they said “comparisons between 3D and raw footage” would be published to verify the results. (Last we checked, they still hadn’t published the comparison.)
If it WAS real, some people found it pretty entertaining. But if it was just a fake race based on “motility” stats or something, it’s not nearly as fun. One report said the footage was transferred to a “3D animation software” before it was shown. Whatever that means.
The guys behind SpermRacing.com claim they’re trying to make it a real sport that turns fertility into a competition. And they really went for it. The event included press conferences, an undercard, and a halftime show by rapper Ty Dolla Sign.
They also just added a page to their website teasing a new product called Sperm Racing Tryouts. It says you’ll be able to buy a kit to test your swimmers and see where they rank on an “Amateur Leaderboard.”
(A guy in L.A. who works with us went to the race and said it had a real WrestleMania vibe. The crowd was almost entirely made up of USC students, so it also had a college party feel.)
There were staged fights between the contenders, a LOT of crude jokes, the loser got ‘white slime’ dumped on him, and people in the crowd were definitely suspicious that the race footage wasn’t real.
A fan who showed up in a wiener costume was a big hit with the crowd, and canons blasted out sperm-shaped confetti at the end.
There was a big line around the block to get in. Here are some photos you’re free to use on your own website.
