A.I. may take our jobs, invade our privacy, and harm the environment. But on the plus side, it can deliver a killer guacamole recipe.
A recent poll asked people, “How have you used conversation-based A.I., like ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini?” And the top answers were:
25% said “summarizing long written content.”
19% said “finding recipes from limited ingredients.”
16% said “diagnosing a medical situation.” (Or TRYING to diagnose it.)
15% said “helping make a life decision.”
10% said “settling a debate.”
10% said “strategizing an awkward conversation.”
10% said “creating content for social media.”
6% said “toning down an angry email.” (What about TONING UP an angry email? For people like me who have trouble being stern enough.)
4% said “making it sound like a lawyer wrote it.”
Those were the options that people were given. 25% said “none of the above,” and 23% said “other.”
They also compared responses from men and women. Female users are more likely to say they have turned to A.I. for personal or social scenarios, while men are much more likely to say they used it to settle debates.
