Before you left the house this morning, did you burp it? (???) The term “house burping” is trending.
It’s something you’ve probably done before, it just didn’t have a fun name yet. It’s when you open your doors and windows to let the stale air out, and fresh air in. So, airing your place out.
“House burping” is a little more intentional though, and something you do regularly, even in winter.
Germans have had a term for it for a while. In Germany, it’s called “lüften” (LOOFT-in), or, “airing out” in order to ventilate. (Sorry, Germany, our term is more fun.)
Popular times to burp your house include first thing in the morning, right after a shower, right after you cook, and right after your stinky friends come over to visit.
An air quality expert said it does have its benefits, and you don’t have to do it for long. Ten minutes or less is enough of a burp. The one big downside is it might up your energy bill.
