If You Love Going to Weddings, a New Service Helps You Become a Wedding Crasher

For some people, getting a wedding invite in the mail is a pure adrenaline rush of excitement.  For others, it’s more like a jury duty summons.

If you’re someone who ENJOYS weddings, there’s a new service that will help you get an invite, even if you’re a complete stranger.  It’s called “Not a Wedding Crasher.”

It’s a platform that connects couples who have extra wedding seats with guests, allowing random people to attend and help offset wedding costs.  You may be wondering . . . “WHY?”

For couples:  It provides a way to fill last-minute cancellations or otherwise untaken seats, helping to meet venue minimums and recoup costs.

For guests:  It offers a “unique opportunity” to attend a real wedding and celebration of love, along with some food, drinks, and dancing.  You can meet people, or get wedding ideas.

Of course, there’s also a verification process.

Couples list their wedding on the Not a Wedding Crasher platform, and then guests request to purchase a seat, like they’re going to a pro sports event.

Potential guests are verified by a third party, using IDs and biometric scans, and then that information is sent to the couple and their wedding planner, who must approve anyone attending their event.

The service just launched a month ago, and they already have more than 300 potential guests signed up, with nearly 10 participating weddings.

So how much does it cost?  Well, the couple gets to set the price of a seat, based on what the costs-per-guest on their end are.  (What about fun perks, like “a good, unobstructed view,” “aisle seats,” or “kid-free tables”???)

It seems like a strange experience, but the creators say it’s “much more natural” than you might expect.  (Until someone asks how you know the couple, and you have to say, “I’ve actually never met them.”)

(Here’s a video.  On their site, there are upcoming weddings in multiple states, with seats costing $25 to $75 each.)
