Believe it or not, but YouTube is now LEGAL DRINKING AGE. YouTube was officially founded on Valentine’s Day in 2005 . . . 21 years ago.
The first video was uploaded a couple months later, on April 23rd. It’s just 19 seconds long, and is titled, “Me at the zoo.” It shows then-25-year-old co-founder Jawed Karim at the San Diego Zoo.
In the video, he says, “All right so here we are, in front of the elephants. And the cool thing about these guys is that they have really, really, really long, um, trunks. And that’s cool. And that’s pretty much all there is to say.” (???)
It’s been viewed 382 million times on YouTube, with 18 million likes, but now, it’s getting an even fancier home.
The Victoria and Albert Museum in London (the V&A) has acquired a reconstructed early YouTube webpage and this first video ever uploaded.
A V&A spokesperson said, “Our digital conservation team spent the last 18 months rebuilding the design and experience of the platform from December 8th, 2006, the oldest timestamp documented online.”
