Americans Who Don’t Plan to Watch the Super Bowl: What’cha Doin’???

Let’s be honest, a HUGE CHUNK of America is doing SOMETHING for the Super Bowl this weekend, even if it’s just watching (lamer than expected) commercials, eating party food, or enjoying adult beverages.  But there ARE people who have zero interest in any of that.

Someone asked the internet:  “Americans who don’t watch the Super Bowl, what will you do instead?”

Most commenters say they take this opportunity to do stuff that NORMALLY draws big crowds, which is smart.  Here are the best responses:

1.  “Go to the gym, and hope nobody else is there.”

2.  “Costco.”

3.  “It’s a great time to go to Trader Joe’s.  It’s the only time it isn’t completely packed.”  (But is it even Trader Joe’s if the parking lot isn’t a total zoo???)

4.  “Get a dinner reservation at one of the hardest spots around.”

5.  “My husband and I always have our Valentine’s Day date on Super Bowl Sunday.  The fancy restaurants that don’t have TVs are usually dead so we get great service and don’t feel rushed . . .

“It’s also a great night to do things like bowling, but you do have to check online to make sure the place you want to go is actually open.”

6.  “Play video games, grade papers, watch a TV show, fold laundry, write lesson plans.  Just a typical Sunday for me.”

7.  “I’m gonna ‘smoke’ a ‘super bowl.'”  (I see what you did there.)

8.  “Hosting a board game night with my friends.”

9.  “It’s a great day to go skiing.  The slopes are empty.”

10.  “My football agnostic family does a ‘Miyazaki Bowl.’  We make Super Bowl style food, wings, snacks, and dip, and watch a Studio Ghibli movie.”  (The idea of themed-events like this is pretty awesome.  A “super” party for non-football fans.)
