Snowed-in people who still had internet access have been doing a lot of googling the past few days. And they’re often googling the same things.
Here are five winter-weather-related Google searches that hit an all-time high this past week, according to Google Trends.
1. “Food for power outage.” A lot of us stocked up before the storm hit. Searches for “non-perishable food” also hit their highest level since covid.
2. “Snow shovel.” A lot of people needed one, or a SECOND one, this week.
3. “How to test a car battery.” Cold weather can kill them. Searches for “emergency supplies for cars” also doubled.
4. “Winter storm radar map.” Even people in warmer areas were tracking the storm.
5. “Ice melting salt.” A lot of stores sold out of it.
Other trending searches over the past few days included “airport closures”, “generators on sale near me”, and a bunch of people mixed up some “snow cream,” or ice cream made with snow.
A lot of us also asked Google, “Can you drink distilled water?” The answer is yes, definitely. It just doesn’t have the same minerals, so don’t do it long term.
