We’re entering prom season, and parents: If you have a teenager, they may come to you looking for advice on what to wear. And since you’re a COOL parent, you want to sift through Google search data. (???)
Google Trends has maps of the top prom dress and suit colors in every state, and somewhat surprisingly, there’s more variety in the colors of the SUITS than the dresses.
For dresses, the most popular color in half the country is BLUE, including in California, New York, Texas, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and Tennessee.
Black dresses are popular in four states, red dresses are #1 in four others, and a few others prefer green, gray, pink, or yellow. Nevada likes red dresses.
Most states have a DIFFERENT color for suits, except Maine, where the top color for both suits and dresses is RED, which would be a bold pairing. (Maybe this is a nod to the movie “Carrie”? Discuss.)
For suits, black, gray, silver, and white are the top picks in almost half of the country, but there are a lot of popular colors.
Navy blue is #1 in seven states, including here in Nevada. Light blue is the most popular in six states, red is #1 in six states, purple suits are preferred in five states, and green is #1 in four states.
