Two Boston Bombing Survivors Ran the Entire Marathon

A 32-year-old guy named Patrick Downes and his wife Jessica were near the finish line of the Boston Marathon in 2013, when the bombs went off.  And they both lost a leg from the knee down.  But yesterday, Patrick became the first Boston Bombing victim to run the ENTIRE marathon on a prosthetic leg.

He finished in just under six hours, and said he was thinking of the city of Boston and all the other victims while he ran.

But he wasn’t the ONLY victim who ran in the marathon yesterday.  A 35-year-old woman named Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost her left leg from the knee down in 2013.  She posted on Twitter during the race that she was having problems with her prosthetic, and it looked like she might have to stop.

But she figured it out, kept going, and ended up finishing about ten minutes before the sun went down.  And there were still a ton of people there cheering for her when she crossed the finish line.  (Here’s a video of her finishing.)
